Justin Peters

The Good: Peters is a big butterfly goalie who possesses excellent agility and instincts in the net. He’s a good skater and is strong playing the puck on shoot-ins. A real competitor, he plays consistently well and always gives his team a chance to win, occasionally even stealing games outright. His positioning is very strong and so he plays even bigger than his already decent size. After four seasons in pro hockey, he is an experienced, well-developed goalie who understands how to play to his strengths. He proved capable of serving as a temporary fill-in last season and with his experience and size could be an interesting target for a team seeking a number one goalie. With Ward’s injury struggles in the past, however, it is not likely that the Hurricanes would part with Peters. Brian Boucher won’t be around long, so Boucher should be up with the big club full time in the next few seasons.

The Bad: Consistency issues continue to plague his career. Peters must also continue to work on his rebound-control to take the next step. If he is to make it as an NHL goaltender, he will need to challenge Cam Ward and Mike Murphy for time.
