Marc-Andre Fleury

The Good: Marc-Andre is an excellent goaltender with supreme ability. Fleury is lightning quick, moves well around his crease, and has a flair for making the dramatic save, often with his glove hand as when he stopped Alexander Ovechkin on a breakaway in Game 7 of the fabled Pittsburgh-Washington playoff series in 2009. An aggressive butterfly-style goalie, he’s capable of making highlight-reel saves look routine. He has proven to be able to lead a team deep in the playoffs, and make clutch saves. More mentally prepared than ever before, Fleury is primed to have an excellent season on a team without Crosby. He’ll look quieter in the crease and act smarter both on and off the ice. Even with last season’s early struggles, Fleury still won 36 games, posted a 2.32 GAA and was 13th in shots faced (1,742).

The Bad: He has lapses in concentration and focus from time to time. He will over-commit when moving laterally, so he can at times lose his net. Fleury doesn’t always handle the puck and/or pass it with aplomb, scoring on his own net to lose the 2003 World Junior Hockey championships. Sometimes inconsistent. Doing a lot for a team with no Crosby.
