Martin Biron

The Good: Biron, for the most part, looks comfortable in net both physically and mentally. Like Henrik Lundqvist, he is a competitor who wants nothing more than to win. You can see that in the way he guards the net, but his stellar performances fall short sometimes because his teammates sometimes dont want it as badly as he did. Marty is a very intelligent guy, as most goalies are, and evidently did his scouting when it came to fellow netminders from around the league. His effective advice on how to beat a goaltender during shootouts earned him the nickname “shootout guru”, and again displayed his unselfish team-first traits.  Now a veteran, he’s poised and rarely gets rattled after giving up a bad goal. He has good agility and the cockiness needed to play between the pipes. For only $800K, Biron is one of the best backup goaltenders in the league. He has won everywhere he has gone.

The Bad: He’s only 173 pounds, so one concern was that he has always needed more meat on his bones. He tends to go into prolonged slumps, which has always hurt his ability to cement a starting gig in the NHL. Biron is also 34 years old, and not able to carry a team as a starter like he could in Buffalo or Philadelphia.
