Ty Conklin

The Good:  Conklin has plenty of confidence in the crease, and is a capable puck-handler. He always works extremely hard at improving his game and is extremely nimble in the crease area. Conklin is one of the best backup goaltenders in the NHL, and at $750K, he is a cheap one too. He has been in 3 outdoor games so far, and with the Red Wings expected to play in next seasons winter classic, he may be playing in his fourth. He was never starting goalie material, but when Marc-Andre Fleury went down with a long term injury in 2007-2008, Conklin had a strong season in the Penguins net, winning 18 games. When Howard is on the bench, Conklin gives Detroit a solid option between the pipes.

The Bad: He isn’t very big (6-1, 185 lbs), so he can be beaten upstairs on occasion.  He has lacked consistency at the National Hockey League level, and cant be a starter for long stretches. Starting to decline in production.
