The Good: He has good technique and he’s cool under pressure.  Backstrom is incredibly consistent, he owns a wealth of high-level experience–he has represented his country multiple times in International events.  He is  Consistent, hard working, keeps his zone clean, and has a big frame (6’0, 193lbs). Backs is a calm keeper with an excellent technique, which has been developed through the years. Has great positioning, and is great at keeping focus. Has developed his butterfly technique past few seasons, but has a little left of the stand-up style. Good glove. Complete keeper, with only a minor weakness being shots between the legs. Backstrom is the best goalie the team has ever seen, and one of the best Finland has produced. While playing in Finland, he proved in 2004 with Kärpät of the FEl that he’s grown mentally to be a winning goalie, playing a fantastic playoff run despite a serious knee injury. He was chosen the best player of the playoffs in 2005 and in 2004 and 2005 the best goalie of FEL. He’s also been a familiar face in the National team’s European Championship tournaments, and he also played in the 2005 World Championships. Fan Favorite.

The Bad: He  Could use a little more quickness and lateral mobility, as well as better improvisational skills, since he tends to rely too much on positioning and technique. He isn’t fantastic on penalty shots. Lot of 5 hole goals.
